Brand

About Scion

Scion was Toyota’s youth-focused brand for the North American market. Launched in 2003 and discontinued in 2016, it was created to offer affordable, distinctive vehicles with simple trim structures and a more casual buying experience. New Scion cars are no longer sold, but the brand remains familiar in the used-car market.

The lineup centred on compact and subcompact vehicles rather than larger family cars or SUVs. Well-known models include the boxy xB hatchback, the tC coupe, the xA and xD small hatchbacks, the iQ city car, the iA sedan, the iM hatchback and the FR-S sports coupe. After Scion ended, several models moved into the Toyota range, including the FR-S as the Toyota 86, the iA as the Yaris iA, and the iM as the Corolla iM.

Scion’s market position was different from Toyota’s mainstream image. It targeted younger and first-time buyers with lower entry prices, urban styling and a strong focus on personalisation. The cars often shared Toyota platforms, components and service networks, which helped make them practical to own.

Today, Scion is mainly known for compact size, distinctive design and Toyota-related engineering. The xB is recognised for its spacious, upright layout, the tC for its accessible coupe format, and the FR-S for its rear-wheel-drive sports-car character. Condition, mileage and maintenance history are especially important when comparing used Scion vehicles.
