About Scion tC
The Scion tC was a compact, front-wheel-drive sports coupe developed for Toyota’s youth-focused Scion brand. Introduced in 2004 for the 2005 model year, it combined coupe styling with a large rear hatch, folding rear seats and more cargo flexibility than a conventional two-door coupe. Production ended in August 2016 as the Scion brand transitioned back into Toyota.
Two generations were offered. The original tC established the basic formula of a four-cylinder engine, manual or automatic transmission, generous standard equipment and a panoramic glass roof. The second generation arrived for 2011 with sharper styling, a larger 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine, six-speed transmissions and revised handling. A 2014 update brought exterior, cabin, steering and transmission changes.
The tC occupied an accessible, everyday-oriented position in Scion’s range. It was sportier than the brand’s practical hatchbacks and box-shaped models, but less specialised than the rear-wheel-drive FR-S. It became Scion’s best-selling model and was closely associated with the brand’s emphasis on personalisation. Numerous limited-production Release Series editions added distinctive colours, trim and accessories, while the final Release Series 10.0 marked the end of production. The tC is chiefly known for its blend of youthful styling, useful liftback design, strong standard equipment and straightforward mechanical layout.
