About Scion xB
The Scion xB is a five-door, front-wheel-drive compact vehicle recognised for its upright, box-shaped body and space-efficient interior. It entered the US market in 2003 as one of Scion’s first two models and helped establish Toyota’s youth-focused brand. Production ended in December 2015, shortly before Scion was discontinued as a separate marque.
Two generations were sold. The original xB was a small, lightweight model with a 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine and distinctive angular styling. The redesigned 2008 xB became longer, wider and more powerful, using a 2.4-litre four-cylinder engine. Both generations offered seating for five, a rear hatch and folding rear seats. Manual and automatic transmissions were available, although specifications varied by model year.
Within the Scion range, the xB served as the practical, utility-oriented alternative to models such as the tC coupe and FR-S sports car. It was marketed with simple equipment configurations and a wide selection of accessories, supporting the brand’s emphasis on personalisation. Numerous limited-production Release Series editions added exclusive colours, trim and features. The xB is best known for its easy cabin access, generous passenger room relative to its footprint, flexible cargo area and unconventional design.
