About Scion iQ

The Scion iQ is an ultra-compact three-door city car developed by Toyota and sold in the United States for the 2012–2015 model years. Marketed as a premium micro-subcompact, it was the smallest vehicle in Scion’s range and was intended mainly for drivers who valued easy parking, low-speed manoeuvrability and efficient use of road space.

Despite its very short body, the iQ used an unusual 3+1 cabin layout. It could accommodate three adults and a smaller fourth passenger, although luggage capacity was limited when the rear seats were occupied. Space-saving features included an asymmetric dashboard, slim front seats, a compact differential and a flat underfloor fuel tank.

The main retail version had front-wheel drive, a 1.3-litre four-cylinder petrol engine and a continuously variable transmission. Scion offered the iQ largely as a single, well-equipped model, with changes in colours, accessories and limited editions such as the 10 Series. A battery-electric iQ EV was also produced in small numbers for car-sharing, campus and urban fleet programmes rather than broad retail sale. The iQ is best known for combining exceptionally compact dimensions with more passenger flexibility and standard safety equipment than many two-seat microcars.
