About SsangYong
SsangYong was a South Korean vehicle manufacturer best known for SUVs, 4x4 vehicles and pickup trucks. The brand built its identity around practical, rugged vehicles rather than small city cars or large mainstream model ranges. For many buyers, SsangYong was associated with value-focused utility, diesel engines, towing ability and all-wheel-drive options.
The lineup commonly included compact and mid-size SUVs, larger off-road-oriented models, MPVs and work-ready pickups. Well-known SsangYong models include the Korando, one of the brand’s longest-running nameplates, the Rexton large SUV, the Musso pickup, the Tivoli compact SUV and the Actyon. In some markets, models such as the Kyron and Rodius also became familiar as affordable alternatives to more established competitors.
SsangYong occupied a niche position in the global market. It did not have the scale or broad recognition of major Korean brands such as Hyundai or Kia, but it developed a following among drivers looking for capable, spacious vehicles at relatively accessible prices. Its vehicles were often chosen for practicality, load space, towing needs and straightforward mechanical character.
The SsangYong company name was replaced by KG Mobility, commonly known as KGM, in 2023 following a change in ownership. Modern vehicles are now sold under the KGM identity in many markets, while SsangYong remains the historic brand name used for earlier vehicles, documentation and existing owner communities.
