About De Tomaso
De Tomaso is an Italian performance-car marque founded in Modena in 1959 by Argentine racing driver Alejandro de Tomaso. It became known for combining Italian design and chassis development with American-sourced engines. The company has produced sports cars, grand tourers and luxury saloons, but it is most closely associated with low-slung, driver-focused performance cars.
The Pantera is its most recognised model, pairing wedge-shaped Italian styling with Ford V8 power and remaining in production in several forms for many years. Other notable vehicles include the lightweight Vallelunga, Giugiaro-designed Mangusta, Deauville saloon, Longchamp grand tourer and Guarà sports car. These models established De Tomaso as a small-volume marque with a distinctive Italian-American character.
Today, De Tomaso occupies the ultra-low-volume exotic and collector-car market. Its modern programme centres on the P72, a carbon-fibre road car with a supercharged 5.0-litre V8 and six-speed manual gearbox, and the P900, a track-only V12 model. Production is limited to 72 and 18 cars respectively. Current vehicles emphasise sculptural design, hand-built construction, lightweight materials and an analogue driving experience.
