About De Tomaso Guarà
The De Tomaso Guarà is a rare, mid-engined two-seat sports car introduced at the 1993 Geneva Motor Show and produced in Modena from 1994 until 2004. Developed from the Maserati Barchetta competition-car concept, it became the final production sports car created under company founder Alejandro de Tomaso.
The range centred on the closed Coupé, alongside the roofless Barchetta and a very small number of Spider versions with weather protection. Early cars used a 4.0-litre BMW V8, while later examples adopted a 4.6-litre Ford V8. Both were paired with a six-speed manual transmission and rear-wheel drive. Production remained extremely limited, and totals vary between sources, making every body and engine combination uncommon.
Within the De Tomaso line-up, the Guarà served as a low-volume flagship after the long-running Pantera era. Its aluminium backbone chassis, composite bodywork and racing-style pushrod suspension gave it a more focused character than a conventional grand tourer. The model is known for direct controls and an uncompromising layout, with practicality taking second place to handling and driver involvement. Its rarity, Italian engineering and choice of German or American V8 power define its distinctive market position.
