About Maybach 62
The Maybach 62 is a full-size ultra-luxury sedan developed under DaimlerChrysler as part of the revived Maybach marque. Introduced in 2002 alongside the shorter Maybach 57, it served as the more chauffeur-focused model, with its name referring to its approximate 6.2-metre length. Production took place in a dedicated area of the Mercedes-Benz Sindelfingen plant, combining modern manufacturing with extensive hand finishing.
Within the Maybach range, the 62 was positioned above the Mercedes-Benz S-Class as a flagship limousine aimed at buyers seeking greater rear-seat space, bespoke equipment, and a more exclusive brand identity. It competed in the same market as the top luxury sedans from Rolls-Royce and Bentley, with an emphasis on comfort rather than sporting character.
The standard Maybach 62 used a twin-turbocharged V12 engine and automatic transmission. The later 62 S added a more powerful AMG-built V12 and sportier tuning, while the limited Zeppelin version brought unique trim, extra performance, and special badging. The 62 Landaulet, based on the 62 S, offered an opening rear roof section and was one of the most distinctive variants.
The model is best known for its spacious rear cabin, reclining executive seating, quiet ride, strong V12 performance, and wide scope for individual specification. Production ended in 2012.
