About HUMMER H3
The HUMMER H3 was the smallest and most accessible model in the original HUMMER range. Produced for the 2006 to 2010 model years, it brought the brand’s military-inspired styling and off-road image into a more compact SUV format than the H1 and H2.
Built on a body-on-frame platform related to GM’s mid-size pickup architecture, the H3 was designed as a five-door SUV with standard four-wheel drive. It kept key HUMMER design cues, including a wide stance, upright body, short overhangs and a spare wheel mounted on the rear door, but was easier to use in everyday driving than the larger models.
Most H3 versions used five-cylinder petrol engines, first a 3.5-litre unit and later a 3.7-litre. The H3 Alpha, introduced for the 2008 model year, added a 5.3-litre V8 and became the performance-focused variant. A related crew-cab pickup, the H3T, was offered for 2009 and 2010.
Within the brand’s lineup, the H3 served as the entry model while still emphasising off-road capability. Adventure-oriented versions could include features such as underbody protection, low-range gearing and locking differentials. The model is known for its distinctive appearance, rugged construction and strong trail-focused character, though it also reflected the compromises typical of traditional off-road SUVs, including weight, fuel use and limited rear visibility.
