About Eagle Talon
The Eagle Talon was a compact three-door sport coupe sold for the 1990–1998 model years. It was developed through Diamond-Star Motors, the Chrysler-Mitsubishi manufacturing venture, and built in Normal, Illinois. Closely related to the Mitsubishi Eclipse and, in its early years, the Plymouth Laser, the Talon used distinctive Eagle styling details and badging to serve as the performance-focused coupe in the brand’s range.
Two generations were offered: the angular first-generation model from 1990 to 1994 and a more rounded redesign for 1995 to 1998. Versions varied by year, but the range generally included naturally aspirated front-wheel-drive models, turbocharged TSi variants, and the TSi AWD with turbo power and all-wheel drive. Manual and automatic transmissions were available, depending on specification.
The Talon is best known for combining compact hatchback practicality with strong performance potential, particularly in turbocharged all-wheel-drive form. Its shared engineering with the Eclipse also helped create broad parts and enthusiast support. Within Eagle’s lineup, it provided a more focused alternative to the brand’s sedans and economy models. The Talon remained in production through Eagle’s final 1998 model year and became one of the marque’s most recognisable vehicles.
