About Eagle Summit
The Eagle Summit was a Mitsubishi-derived model sold by Chrysler’s Eagle division in North America from 1989 to 1996. It served as the brand’s entry-level passenger car, giving Jeep-Eagle dealers a conventional small vehicle alongside the sportier Talon and larger Eagle models. Most Summit cars were closely related to the Mitsubishi Mirage and Dodge and Plymouth Colt variants, reflecting Chrysler-Mitsubishi product sharing at the time.
Across two main generations, the passenger-car range included four-door sedans and compact three-door hatchbacks, with the hatchback later replaced by a two-door coupe. Four-cylinder engines, front-wheel drive, and manual or automatic transmissions suited its role as straightforward everyday transport. Some early Summit production also took place at the Diamond-Star Motors plant in Illinois.
The Summit Wagon, offered from 1992 to 1996, was a distinct variation based on the Mitsubishi RVR, sold in the United States as the Expo LRV. Taller and more versatile than the sedan and coupe, it combined qualities of a small wagon and compact multipurpose vehicle. Front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive versions were available. The Summit is mainly known for compact dimensions, practical packaging, simple controls, and an unusually broad choice of body styles within one model line.
