About Eagle Premier

The Eagle Premier was a large four-door sedan sold for the 1988–1992 model years. Developed by American Motors with Renault involvement, it reached the market under Chrysler’s newly established Eagle marque after Chrysler acquired AMC in 1987. Production took place in Brampton, Ontario, Canada.

With front-wheel drive and a longitudinally mounted engine, the Premier combined North American dimensions with European-influenced engineering. Its restrained three-box exterior was shaped by Italdesign. Within Eagle’s range, it was the larger, more upmarket sedan and was eventually succeeded by the Eagle Vision.

The range centred on LX and ES trims, with ES Limited offered as a higher-content version. Depending on year and specification, power came from an AMC 2.5-litre four-cylinder or a 3.0-litre PRV V6, paired with four-speed automatic transmissions.

The Premier is known for its spacious passenger compartment and boot, comfortable ride, composed handling and unusual blend of American, French and Italian influences. Although its production run was short, it held an important position as Eagle’s flagship sedan and helped connect AMC-Renault development with Chrysler’s later generation of large front-wheel-drive cars.
