About Volvo XC60
The Volvo XC60 is a five-door, five-seat mid-size premium SUV. Introduced in 2008, it brought Volvo into the growing crossover segment and established a middle ground between conventional passenger cars and the brand’s larger XC models. It sits below the XC90 in size and offers more cabin and cargo space than Volvo’s compact SUVs.
Two generations have been produced. The original XC60 was built from 2008, initially in Belgium, and offered petrol or diesel engines, with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive depending on market and specification. The second generation entered production in Sweden in 2017, adopting Volvo’s newer vehicle architecture, design language and electrified powertrains. Production was also expanded to China for local demand.
Versions have ranged from practical standard models to higher-performance and luxury-oriented specifications. Recent line-ups have focused on petrol mild hybrids and plug-in hybrids, while earlier markets also received diesel variants. The XC60 is known for understated Scandinavian styling, a comfortable five-seat interior, useful everyday versatility and a strong emphasis on occupant protection and driver-assistance technology. It has become one of Volvo’s core global models and, in 2025, surpassed the Volvo 240 as the company’s best-selling model by cumulative volume.
