About Volvo S60
The Volvo S60 is a four-door premium mid-size sedan introduced in 2000. It brought a coupé-like profile and driver-focused character to Volvo’s range while retaining the brand’s emphasis on safety, comfort and everyday usability. Positioned below the larger S90, it is the saloon counterpart to the V60 estate and competes in the compact executive class.
Three generations have been produced. The first, built from 2000 to 2009, was known for five-cylinder engines, available all-wheel drive and the high-performance S60 R. The second arrived in 2010 and later gained Drive-E four-cylinder engines, Polestar performance models and the raised S60 Cross Country in selected markets.
The third generation was unveiled in 2018 on Volvo’s Scalable Product Architecture. It became the first Volvo manufactured in the United States and the first modern Volvo launched without a diesel option. Depending on market and model year, versions have included petrol, mild-hybrid and T8 plug-in hybrid powertrains, with front- or all-wheel drive and Polestar Engineered derivatives.
Across its generations, the S60 is known for understated Scandinavian design, supportive seating, strong safety engineering and a balance of composed ride quality with more agile handling than Volvo’s larger sedans and SUVs.
