About Volvo EC40
The Volvo EC40 is a compact, five-seat battery-electric crossover with a low, coupe-like roofline. Production began in Ghent, Belgium, in 2021 under the C40 Recharge name. Volvo renamed it EC40 for the 2025 model year to align it with the brand’s newer electric-car naming system. It was Volvo’s second production electric car and its first model offered only with fully electric power.
The EC40 remains in its first generation and uses the Compact Modular Architecture also found beneath the closely related EX40. It occupies the role of a sleeker alternative to that more upright compact SUV, combining an elevated seating position with a tapered rear profile. In the premium EV market, it competes as a compact crossover rather than a traditional hatchback or large SUV.
