About Volkswagen Worker
The Volkswagen Worker is a Brazilian-developed family of cab-over trucks from Volkswagen Caminhões e Ônibus. Its roots lie in the brand’s local truck programme, which began production in 1981, while Worker became a defined part of the range in the 2000s. Manufacturing was centred at the Resende plant in Brazil, serving the domestic market and exports, particularly across Latin America.
Rather than following clearly separated global generations, Worker evolved through broad updates. The Series 2000 range modernised Volkswagen’s Brazilian trucks, and later versions gained revised diesel engines, emissions equipment, cabins and chassis specifications. Depending on year and market, models covered approximately 8- to 31-tonne gross vehicle weight classes, with 4x2, 6x2 and 6x4 configurations. Chassis-cab and tractor versions supported distribution, regional haulage, construction and other vocational uses.
Within Volkswagen’s truck portfolio, Worker generally occupied the medium- and heavy-duty space above Delivery and below or alongside the more modern Constellation range. It is known for its forward-control cab, broad application flexibility and straightforward mechanical layouts. Production ended in 2019 as newer Delivery and Constellation models assumed its main roles, but Worker remains one of Volkswagen Truck & Bus’s highest-volume historic product families.
