About Volkswagen Voyage
The Volkswagen Voyage is a compact saloon developed in Brazil as part of the Gol model family. Introduced in 1981, it added a conventional boot and more formal styling to Volkswagen’s locally designed small-car range. It became an important entry-level saloon in Brazil and was also exported to numerous international markets.
The model had two principal eras. The original Voyage was produced from 1981 to 1996 and appeared with two- and four-door bodies. Versions included S, LS, GLS, Plus, C, CL and GL, with petrol- or ethanol-powered engines ranging from 1.5 to 1.8 litres. Equipment and exterior details evolved through several updates, but the basic emphasis remained on practical transport and straightforward engineering.
Volkswagen revived the name in 2008 for a completely redesigned four-door saloon developed alongside the contemporary Gol. This generation occupied the affordable end of the brand’s saloon range, below newer and larger models such as the Virtus. Depending on model year and market, it offered 1.0- and 1.6-litre flex-fuel engines, five-speed manual gearboxes and, later, a six-speed automatic option.
Known for its large boot, compact dimensions, simple controls and widely supported mechanical components, the Voyage appealed to private owners, fleets and taxi operators. Brazilian production ended in December 2022, closing a long-running model line closely associated with Volkswagen’s regional small-car range.
