About Volkswagen Virtus
Volkswagen Virtus is a four-door compact sedan introduced in Brazil in 2017. Developed initially for South America, it uses Volkswagen’s MQB A0 architecture and shares its basic engineering with the Polo. Its longer wheelbase and separate boot provide greater rear-seat and luggage space than the related hatchback. Production began in Brazil, while an India-specific version entered production in Pune in 2022 on the highly localised MQB A0 IN platform.
The Virtus remains within its first main generation, although design, equipment and powertrain updates differ by region. The Indian model and the updated South American car have a longer body and more substantial styling than the original version. Depending on the market, the range includes mainstream Comfortline or Highline specifications, sport-focused GT or GTS models, and higher-grade versions such as Exclusive. Trim names and equipment are not globally consistent.
Power comes mainly from turbocharged TSI petrol engines, with manual, conventional automatic or dual-clutch transmissions offered according to market. The Virtus is positioned as Volkswagen’s practical compact or midsize saloon in regions where traditional sedans remain important. It is particularly known for its spacious five-seat cabin, 521-litre boot, restrained design and balance of everyday comfort, efficient packaging and available turbocharged performance.
