About Volkswagen Tayron

The Volkswagen Tayron is a mid-size SUV nameplate introduced in China in 2018 by FAW-Volkswagen. The original model used Volkswagen’s modular transverse architecture and targeted the middle-to-upper SUV segment. Its Chinese family expanded with the plug-in-hybrid Tayron GTE and the more style-focused Tayron X crossover; Tayron and Tayron L versions remain in the regional range.

In 2024, Volkswagen unveiled a new Tayron developed for Europe. Production began at the Wolfsburg plant in November 2024, followed by European deliveries in March 2025. This model succeeded the Tiguan Allspace in Volkswagen’s European range. Built on the MQB evo platform, it is about 4.8 metres long and sits between the Tiguan and Touareg, making it the brand’s second-largest SUV in Europe.

The European Tayron is available with five seats or an optional third row for seven, although plug-in-hybrid versions are five-seat only. Depending on market, the range includes mild-hybrid petrol, plug-in hybrid, conventional petrol and diesel powertrains, plus front- or 4MOTION all-wheel drive. It is known for generous passenger and luggage space, flexible seating, long-distance comfort, modern assistance technology and useful towing ability. The Tayron serves as Volkswagen’s practical large family SUV, bridging mainstream mid-size models and the more premium Touareg.
