About Volkswagen T-Roc
The Volkswagen T-Roc is a compact crossover SUV introduced in 2017. It combines the raised seating position and practical layout of an SUV with dimensions and road manners closer to a compact hatchback. Within Volkswagen’s European range, it sits between the smaller T-Cross and the larger Tiguan, offering a more style-focused alternative with a coupé-like rear profile.
The first generation was based on Volkswagen’s MQB architecture and received a substantial update in 2021. Most versions used a five-door body with front-wheel drive, while selected engines were offered with 4MOTION all-wheel drive. The range also expanded to include the high-performance T-Roc R and the two-door T-Roc Cabriolet, an uncommon open-top variation in the compact SUV class.
A second generation entered the market in late 2025. Built on the newer MQB evo platform, it brought increased dimensions, more interior and luggage space, updated assistance and infotainment systems, and a range centred on hybridised petrol powertrains. The main T-Roc is produced at Volkswagen’s Palmela plant in Portugal.
Known for its distinctive styling, compact footprint, versatile cabin and balanced everyday handling, the T-Roc has become one of Volkswagen’s most important SUVs. More than two million examples of the model had been produced by the arrival of the second generation.
