About Volkswagen Saveiro
The Volkswagen Saveiro is a compact, car-derived pickup developed by Volkswagen do Brasil. Introduced in August 1982 as part of the Gol family, it combines passenger-car dimensions and road manners with an open cargo bed. Built in Brazil, it has mainly served Brazil and other Latin American markets, where small pickups are commonly used for work and personal transport.
Volkswagen groups the Saveiro’s development into five generations. Early models closely followed successive Gol designs, while later updates brought longer wheelbases, increased payloads, revised engines and more modern cabins. The substantially redesigned 2009 model added an extended-cab option. A double-cab body later provided rear seating, while single-cab versions retained a longer load area.
The Saveiro has been offered in practical work-focused trims, better-equipped everyday versions, adventure-styled derivatives and several special editions. The current Brazilian range includes single- and double-cab configurations, with Robust, Trendline and Extreme variants serving different requirements.
Within Volkswagen’s regional range, the Saveiro fills the compact pickup role. It is known for its manageable size, straightforward mechanical layout, useful load capacity and ability to handle both commercial duties and daily driving. Its long production run has made it one of Volkswagen do Brasil’s most established locally developed vehicles.
