About Volkswagen Nivus
The Volkswagen Nivus is a subcompact crossover with a coupé-inspired roofline, raised driving position and five-door body. Launched in Brazil in 2020, it was developed by Volkswagen South America and entered production at the Anchieta plant in São Bernardo do Campo. It became the first Volkswagen designed in Latin America to provide the basis for a model produced in Europe, where a market-specific version is sold as the Taigo.
Built on Volkswagen’s MQB architecture, the Nivus is related to the Polo and T-Cross. It occupies a design-focused position in the small-car range, combining the footprint and road manners of a compact hatchback with SUV styling and a practical luggage compartment. The model is primarily aimed at Latin American markets, although availability and specifications differ by country.
The Nivus remains in its first generation, with a substantial update introduced for the 2025 model year. Changes included revised exterior styling, connected infotainment and additional driver-assistance options. Depending on the market and year, versions include Sense, Comfortline and Highline, while the GTS adds a more powerful engine, sportier chassis tuning and distinctive trim. The Nivus is known for turbocharged engines, front-wheel drive, digital cabin technology and a balance of everyday practicality and coupé-like design.
