About Volkswagen Logus

The Volkswagen Logus was a two-door, three-box sedan introduced in Brazil in 1993. Developed during Autolatina, Volkswagen and Ford’s South American joint venture, it used the contemporary Ford Escort platform but had distinct Volkswagen styling and interior details. It occupied the medium-car class, providing a streamlined alternative within Volkswagen’s local range. Production ended in December 1996 after 125,332 units.

The Logus had a single generation. Initial versions included CL, GL and GLS trims, with either a Ford-derived 1.6-litre engine or Volkswagen’s AP 1.8-litre unit. Petrol and ethanol configurations were offered. The upper GLS received a 2.0-litre engine for the 1994 range, while later variations included fuel-injected 1.6i and 1.8i models. The sporting-oriented Wolfsburg Edition was the most distinctive special version.

The model is known for combining a sleek profile with practical interior space. Its 2.52-metre wheelbase provided useful rear accommodation, while the 416-litre boot supported its family-car role. Other recognised qualities included clear instrumentation, a well-arranged driving position and generous equipment in higher trims. Its short production run and Autolatina origins make it a distinctive part of Volkswagen do Brasil’s 1990s line-up.
