About Volkswagen Fox
The Volkswagen Fox is a compact, front-wheel-drive hatchback developed by Volkswagen do Brasil and launched in Brazil in 2003. Its tall-roof layout was designed to provide generous passenger space within a short body. It became a mainstream small car in Latin America, where production continued until 2021.
Brazilian-built Fox models were sold in Europe from 2005 to 2011. There, the Fox replaced the Lupo as Volkswagen’s entry-level city car and was later succeeded by the up!. European versions were three-door hatchbacks, while Latin American markets also received five-door models. The Fox remained one core generation rather than progressing through several all-new designs, but it received major styling, interior, equipment and powertrain updates during its long production run.
The wider family included the CrossFox, with adventure-style exterior trim, and the longer SpaceFox estate, called Suran in some markets. Engines varied by region and year, including petrol and diesel units in Europe and flex-fuel options in Brazil. Manual and automated transmissions were offered on selected versions. The Fox is best known for its upright seating, ample headroom, practical rear-seat arrangements and efficient use of space. Within Volkswagen’s range, it combined compact exterior dimensions with cabin utility closer to that of a larger small hatchback.
