About Volkswagen Caddy
The Volkswagen Caddy is a compact light commercial vehicle and passenger carrier positioned below the larger Transporter in Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles’ range. Introduced in the late 1970s as a Golf-based pickup, it later developed into a high-roof van designed for business, family and leisure use.
Five generations have been marketed. The second generation broadened the range during the 1990s, while the third-generation model launched in 2003 established the Caddy’s modern format. Volkswagen treated the extensively revised 2015 model as the fourth generation. The fifth generation arrived in 2020 with the Volkswagen Group’s MQB platform, more car-like technology and updated driver-assistance systems. Caddy production has been centred in Poznań, Poland, since 2003, and the current model is built there exclusively.
The range commonly includes the Caddy Cargo panel van, passenger versions and longer Maxi models. Depending on the market and generation, variations have also included Kombi-style configurations, pickups and the compact Caddy California camper. Petrol and diesel engines have been widely offered, with a plug-in hybrid joining the current range.
The Caddy is known for combining manageable exterior dimensions with a practical, box-shaped interior, sliding side doors and flexible seating or load space. It competes in the compact van class while offering passenger versions that serve as practical alternatives to conventional MPVs.
