About Volkswagen Bora

The Volkswagen Bora is a compact car introduced in 1998 as the European successor to the Vento. Closely related to the fourth-generation Golf, it used the same basic platform but adopted a more formal four-door saloon body, distinctive rectangular headlights and a larger, separate boot. In North America and several other markets, the corresponding model retained the Jetta name.

Volkswagen positioned the Bora as a more refined alternative to the Golf hatchback. Its fully galvanised body, solid cabin finish and broad equipment range supported this role. European versions included Trendline, Comfortline and Highline trims, along with several special editions.

A wide selection of petrol and diesel engines was offered, ranging from economical four-cylinder units to V5 and V6 options. Most models had front-wheel drive, while selected versions featured 4MOTION all-wheel drive. The Bora Variant estate joined the range in 1999, combining additional practicality with more comprehensive equipment.

European saloon production ended in 2005, but the Bora name continued elsewhere. In China, FAW-Volkswagen introduced the model in 2001 and developed later, locally focused generations. The Bora became established there as a mainstream compact saloon, valued for its practical layout, restrained styling and familiar Volkswagen engineering.
