About Volkswagen Arteon
The Volkswagen Arteon is a large five-door fastback introduced in 2017 as the successor to the Volkswagen CC. Developed as the brand’s gran turismo, it combined coupé-inspired styling with a hatchback-style rear opening, generous passenger space and the practicality needed for everyday use. It occupied an upper position in Volkswagen’s passenger-car range, above the Passat in design emphasis and market positioning.
The Arteon remained within a single generation, with a substantial update introduced in 2020. This revision brought refreshed styling, updated cabin technology and additional powertrain choices. Volkswagen also added the Arteon Shooting Brake, an estate-style version with an extended roofline. Depending on market and model year, the range included petrol and diesel engines, front-wheel drive or 4MOTION all-wheel drive, and an eHybrid plug-in hybrid. The high-performance Arteon R and Arteon R Shooting Brake served as the flagship variants.
Availability and specifications varied considerably by region. Some markets received only the fastback, while the Shooting Brake, eHybrid and R versions were mainly offered in Europe. Production of the fastback at Volkswagen’s Emden plant ended in 2024 as the factory shifted towards electric models. The Arteon is chiefly known for its distinctive proportions, spacious interior, long-distance comfort and balance between executive-car presentation and liftback versatility.
