About Toyota Windom
The Toyota Windom was a Japan-market luxury sedan produced from 1991 to 2005. Closely related to the Lexus ES, it used Camry-based architecture but was positioned as a more refined, premium model within Toyota’s domestic range. It was sold through Toyota Corolla dealerships and represented the brand’s leading front-wheel-drive passenger car.
Three generations were offered. The first-generation XV10 arrived in September 1991, followed by the larger XV20 in August 1996 and the XV30 in August 2001. The first two had four-door pillared hardtop styling, while the final generation adopted a conventional sedan body with increased cabin space.
All versions combined a front-mounted V6 engine with front-wheel drive and an automatic transmission. Early cars used a 3.0-litre engine, while the second generation offered both 2.5- and 3.0-litre choices. The third generation returned to a 3.0-litre-only range and introduced a five-speed automatic.
The Windom is primarily known for its quiet ride, smooth power delivery, spacious interior and generous equipment. Higher grades offered features such as electronically controlled suspension, stability and traction control, navigation and upgraded safety systems. Its character emphasised comfort and refinement rather than sporting performance.
