The Toyota Toyoace was a cab-over light-duty truck introduced in Japan in 1954. Developed as an affordable “people’s truck” for small businesses, it became a long-running part of Toyota’s commercial-vehicle range. The cab-over layout placed the cabin above the engine, combining useful cargo capacity with compact dimensions suited to urban streets and delivery work.

Across eight generations, the Toyoace evolved from a relatively simple small truck into a broad family of work vehicles. Early generations had their own design, while models from the mid-1980s increasingly shared engineering with the Toyota Dyna. Later versions were distinguished mainly by badging and their Japanese dealer network. The Toyoace name was retired in 2020 after more than six decades.

Configurations varied by generation and market. They included flatbed cargo trucks, low-deck models and enclosed route vans, with standard or wide cabins, single- and double-cab bodies, different wheelbases and a range of payload ratings. Two- and four-wheel drive were offered on selected versions. Powertrain choices included petrol, diesel and LPG engines, while later two-ton models were also available with diesel-hybrid technology.

The Toyoace is chiefly known as a practical business vehicle designed around manoeuvrability, straightforward loading, adaptable body options and day-to-day operating needs.
