About Toyota Tamaraw
The Toyota Tamaraw is a Philippine-market utility vehicle known for practical transport, adaptable bodywork and straightforward construction. Introduced in 1976, it was developed as a basic utility vehicle for the Philippines and later formed part of Toyota’s wider Asian commercial-vehicle programme. Early generations were commonly supplied as pickups or cab-and-chassis models, allowing local bodies to be fitted for carrying passengers, goods or both.
The Tamaraw FX expanded the concept during the 1990s, becoming widely used as family transport, a business vehicle, taxi and public-utility vehicle. The later Revo continued the nameplate’s shift towards a more car-like multipurpose vehicle while retaining its emphasis on space and durability.
Toyota revived the name with the Next Generation Tamaraw, locally produced in Santa Rosa, Laguna from 2024, with customer deliveries beginning in January 2025. Based on Toyota’s IMV platform and developed from the IMV 0 concept, it returns to a work-focused, chassis-based format. The range includes petrol and diesel versions, short- and long-wheelbase configurations, and manual or automatic transmissions. Available bodies and conversions include utility van, dropside and aluminium cargo models, plus specialised ambulance, patrol, refrigerated van, mobile store, food truck and wing-van versions.
Within Toyota’s Philippine lineup, the Tamaraw is positioned as a configurable light commercial workhorse for small businesses, fleet operators and passenger services.
