About Toyota Tacoma
The Toyota Tacoma is a body-on-frame midsize pickup developed primarily for North America. Introduced for the 1995 model year, it succeeded Toyota’s earlier compact pickup in the region and has become one of the brand’s core trucks. Within Toyota’s lineup, it sits below the full-size Tundra, combining easier everyday use with useful cargo, towing and off-road capability.
Four generations have been produced. Over time, the Tacoma has grown in size, comfort and technology while retaining its rugged construction. The fourth generation arrived for the 2024 model year on Toyota’s TNGA-F truck platform. Designed and engineered for the North American market, the current model is assembled in Mexico and offers turbocharged four-cylinder petrol and hybrid powertrains.
Tacoma variations have included two- and four-door cab styles, different bed lengths, rear- or four-wheel drive and a broad range of work, road-focused and off-road grades. Current versions extend from the practical SR and SR5 to TRD Sport, TRD Off-Road and Limited models. The TRD Pro targets demanding trail use, while the Trailhunter is configured for overlanding.
The Tacoma is known for its durable design, strong off-road identity and wide choice of configurations. It serves buyers seeking a versatile pickup for daily driving, commercial tasks, recreation or rough-terrain travel without moving to a full-size truck.
