About Toyota Roomy
The Toyota Roomy is a five-seat tall compact MPV developed primarily for the Japanese market. Introduced in November 2016, it combines the footprint and manoeuvrability of a small car with a high roof, upright body and cabin packaging inspired by larger minivans. It occupies a practical position in Toyota’s domestic range below the brand’s conventional three-row people carriers.
The model is produced by Daihatsu for Toyota and has remained in its first generation. A substantial facelift in September 2020 revised the exterior and interior while expanding driver-assistance equipment. Versions have included regular and more distinctively styled Custom grades, with equipment levels ranging from basic urban transport to better-appointed family models.
Depending on grade and model year, the Roomy has been offered with naturally aspirated and turbocharged 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol engines, a continuously variable transmission, front-wheel drive and, on selected versions, four-wheel drive. Its key qualities are dual sliding rear doors, easy access, compact exterior dimensions and flexible interior space. Sliding and folding rear seats allow passenger room and luggage capacity to be adjusted as needed. These features make the Roomy particularly suited to city driving, family use and buyers seeking more versatility than a conventional hatchback without moving to a full-size minivan.
