About Toyota Probox
Toyota introduced the Probox in Japan in July 2002 as a compact, five-door vehicle developed primarily for commercial use. Its estate-like body combines passenger-car dimensions with a long, box-shaped cargo area, making it suitable for deliveries, sales work, maintenance services and other fleet duties. It occupies the role of a practical compact workhorse within Toyota’s Japanese lineup.
The original range included commercial van and passenger wagon versions, with petrol and diesel engines and front- or four-wheel drive. A substantial revision arrived in 2014, creating the second main phase of the model with updated styling, powertrains, cabin features and safety equipment while retaining the familiar basic format. Toyota added a petrol-electric hybrid version in 2018.
Current versions are commercial vans powered by a 1.5-litre petrol engine or a 1.5-litre hybrid system. Petrol models are available with two- or four-wheel drive, while the hybrid uses two-wheel drive. Depending on specification, the Probox can accommodate two or five occupants, with the rear seat folding to prioritise load space. The model is known for straightforward controls, useful in-cabin storage, easy cargo access, economical operation and a design focused more on daily working needs than comfort or style.
