About Toyota Premio

The Toyota Premio is a four-door saloon developed mainly for the Japanese market. Introduced in December 2001 as the successor to the Toyota Corona, it combined compact exterior dimensions with a relatively spacious and refined cabin. Production continued until March 2021.

Two generations were offered. The first ran from 2001 to 2007, while the second arrived in June 2007 and remained in production with several updates until 2021. Both followed Japan’s “five-number” dimensional category, keeping the body less than 1.7 metres wide. This made the Premio easy to use in urban areas while providing generous rear-seat space. Reclining and folding rear seats added flexibility not always found in traditional saloons.

Depending on the year and specification, the Premio was available with 1.5-, 1.8- or 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engines. Front-wheel drive was standard across much of the range, with four-wheel drive offered on selected 1.8-litre versions. Common grade names included F, X and G, with equipment levels and package options varying over time.

Within Toyota’s domestic lineup, the Premio was positioned as a formal, higher-quality compact saloon. It is best known for its restrained styling, comfortable ride, quiet cabin, practical packaging and emphasis on passenger comfort rather than sporty performance.
