About Toyota Porte
The Toyota Porte is a compact tall wagon developed mainly for the Japanese market. Introduced in July 2004 and produced until December 2020, it combined the manageable dimensions of a small hatchback with some of the space and accessibility of a minivan. It was aimed at urban households seeking practical transport without a large body or a third row of seats.
Its defining feature is a wide, power-operated sliding door on the passenger side. Together with a low floor, high roof and flexible seating, this provides easy access for children, older passengers and users carrying bulky items. The cabin is also known for generous headroom, useful storage and a front passenger seat with an unusually long sliding range.
Two generations were produced. The first, sold from 2004 to 2012, established the model’s distinctive asymmetrical door layout and offered 1.3- and 1.5-litre petrol engines. The second generation, launched in 2012, added a rear door on the driver’s side, updated the interior and adopted CVT automatic transmissions. Front-wheel drive and four-wheel drive were available, depending on engine and grade.
Several trim levels and Welcab mobility-assistance versions were offered. Within Toyota’s range, the Porte stood out as a five-seat alternative to a conventional hatchback or larger minivan, valued primarily for easy entry, manoeuvrability and everyday versatility.
