About Toyota Mark X ZiO
The Toyota Mark X ZiO is a multi-purpose passenger vehicle developed mainly for the Japanese market. Launched in September 2007 and produced until 2013, it used the Mark X name but followed a distinct, front-wheel-drive-based design. Toyota positioned it as a blend of saloon, estate and minivan qualities, with a lower and more streamlined body than a conventional people carrier.
The ZiO remained a single-generation model, receiving regular updates and a notable facelift in 2011. Its flexible cabin was central to its identity. Depending on the version, it provided five, six or seven seats, with some six-seat models featuring individual second-row chairs. Folding rear seating allowed the interior to prioritise passengers or luggage as required.
Most versions used a 2.4-litre four-cylinder petrol engine with a continuously variable transmission and a choice of front- or four-wheel drive. The higher-grade 350G paired a 3.5-litre V6 with a six-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive. Major variations included the 240 series, the sportier Aerial grade and the luggage-focused five-seat Five Style.
Within Toyota’s range, the Mark X ZiO occupied a niche between an upmarket saloon and a family minivan. It is chiefly known for its adaptable interior, relatively low roofline, comfortable cruising character and unusual combination of passenger capacity and estate-like practicality.
