About Toyota Mark X

The Toyota Mark X is a mid-size sports sedan produced from 2004 to 2019. Developed mainly for Japan, it replaced the long-running Mark II and continued its role as an upscale, driver-focused saloon. Within Toyota’s range, it provided a rear-wheel-drive alternative to front-wheel-drive family sedans while sitting below the Crown in market position. It was also manufactured and sold in China as the Toyota Reiz.

Across two generations, the Mark X retained V6 petrol engines and a predominantly rear-wheel-drive layout. The first generation arrived in 2004 with 2.5- and 3.0-litre engines. A redesigned second generation followed in 2009, offering 2.5- and 3.5-litre V6 units. Mainstream models used six-speed automatic transmissions, while four-wheel drive was available on selected 2.5-litre versions.

The range included standard, premium and sport-oriented specifications. Well-known versions included the 250G, Premium, 350S and later RDS and GR Sport grades, alongside limited GRMN performance models. Production ended in December 2019 after the release of the Final Edition. The Mark X is known for combining practical four-door accommodation with smooth naturally aspirated power, balanced handling, a low-slung stance and long-distance comfort. It remains notable within Toyota’s lineup as a traditional V6 sports saloon with a strong emphasis on refinement and rear-wheel-drive road manners.
