About Toyota Kijang
The Toyota Kijang is a utility and family vehicle closely associated with Toyota’s operations in Indonesia. Local production began in 1977 with a simple light commercial pickup for practical transport. Passenger versions later became the core of the range, combining flexible seating and useful luggage capacity with straightforward engineering suited to varied road and operating conditions.
Toyota recognises seven Kijang generations. The first four evolved from work-oriented pickups and basic people carriers into increasingly refined multipurpose vehicles. They are commonly known in Indonesia by names including Kijang Buaya, Doyok, Super and Kapsul. The fifth generation introduced the Kijang Innova name in 2004, followed by a redesigned sixth-generation Innova in 2015.
The seventh-generation Kijang Innova Zenix arrived in 2022. It marked a major change from the earlier ladder-frame, rear-wheel-drive layout to a TNGA-based monocoque platform with front-wheel drive. Gasoline and hybrid versions are available, while previous generations included gasoline and diesel engines, pickup derivatives and several passenger-body configurations. Within Toyota’s lineup, the Kijang is positioned as a medium MPV for family and multi-passenger use. It is best known for practicality, cabin space, durability and its strong connection to Indonesian manufacturing and vehicle exports.
