About Toyota Isis

The Toyota Isis is a medium-sized, three-row minivan developed mainly for the Japanese market. Introduced in September 2004, it remained in production until 2017. The model had one generation, receiving periodic styling, equipment and mechanical updates rather than a complete redesign.

Designed for family use, the Isis provides seven seats in a relatively low, car-like body. Its defining feature is the Panorama Open Door system on the passenger side. The centre pillar is integrated into the front and sliding rear doors, creating a wide, unobstructed opening when both are open. Flexible second- and third-row seating also supports a useful mix of passenger and cargo space.

The range used 1.8- and 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engines. Front-wheel drive was common, with four-wheel drive available on selected versions. Early models used either a conventional automatic transmission or a CVT, depending on the engine. A major 2009 update introduced Valvematic engines and CVTs across the main range.

Core grades included L and the better-equipped G. Platana models added wider bodywork and a sportier appearance, while Selection packages, special editions and Welcab mobility-access versions expanded the range.

Within Toyota’s Japanese line-up, the Isis occupied the middle ground between compact people carriers and taller minivans. It is primarily known for easy cabin access, efficient packaging and everyday versatility.
