About Toyota Crown Majesta
The Toyota Crown Majesta is a large luxury sedan introduced in Japan in 1991. Developed as the flagship version of the Crown range, it was initially positioned between the regular Crown and the Toyota Celsior. In later years, Toyota described it as the brand’s top-end sedan. Sales focused mainly on the Japanese domestic market, although used examples have since been exported to many countries.
Six generations were produced: S140, S150, S170, S180, S200 and S210. Early versions used four-door hardtop styling, while later models adopted a more conventional sedan body. Most generations were rear-wheel drive, with four-wheel-drive variants offered during parts of the production run.
The Majesta was distinguished from other Crown models by its larger body, restrained formal styling, high equipment levels and greater emphasis on rear-seat comfort. Depending on generation, features included air suspension, advanced electronic chassis controls, extensive sound insulation and driver-assistance technology. Earlier cars were available with inline-six and V8 petrol engines, while V8 power became especially associated with the model. The final S210 generation, launched in 2013, replaced the V8 with a 3.5-litre V6 hybrid system and used a longer wheelbase than contemporary Crown Royal and Athlete models.
Production ended in 2018. The Crown Majesta remains known for combining traditional Japanese luxury, quiet cruising and Toyota engineering in a discreet flagship sedan.
