About Toyota Comfort
The Toyota Comfort is a four-door, rear-wheel-drive sedan developed mainly for professional fleet use. Introduced in Japan in December 1995, it occupied the small-taxi class and was also produced as a driving-school car. Its platform was derived from the X80-series Toyota Mark II sedan, but the body and cabin were designed around frequent passenger service.
The Comfort remained in one generation, with gradual equipment and mechanical updates, until January 2018. Taxi versions were primarily powered by four-cylinder LPG engines, while petrol-powered driving-school models were also available. Depending on the year and specification, the range included Standard, Deluxe and SG grades, with manual or automatic transmissions. Accessible Welcab versions were offered with a rotating rear seat.
Within Toyota’s lineup, the Comfort was a specialised work vehicle rather than a conventional family saloon. It was known for its high roof, wide-opening doors, spacious rear seating, large luggage compartment and provisions for taxi equipment. Good visibility, straightforward controls, easily cleaned trim and repair-friendly components reflected its focus on long working hours, manageable operating costs and practical urban service.
