About Toyota Celica
The Toyota Celica is a compact sports car produced from 1970 to 2006 across seven generations. Created as an attainable, stylish performance model, it gave Toyota a dedicated sporting presence alongside its mainstream passenger cars. Early versions used a front-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout, while the fourth generation introduced front-wheel drive in 1985.
Depending on generation and market, the Celica was offered as a two-door coupé, liftback or convertible, with a wide range of four-cylinder engines and trim levels. The larger six-cylinder Celica Supra began as part of the family before developing into the separate Supra model line.
Among the best-known versions is the turbocharged, four-wheel-drive GT-Four, introduced during the fourth generation. Developed with rally competition in mind, GT-Four models strengthened the Celica’s international performance reputation and became especially desirable among enthusiasts.
The seventh and final generation arrived in 1999 as a lightweight, sharply styled front-wheel-drive coupé aimed at younger drivers. Throughout its production life, the Celica was known for distinctive styling, responsive handling and practical everyday usability. Its mix of accessible performance and motorsport associations gives it an important place among Toyota’s classic sporting models.
