About Toyota bZ5
The Toyota bZ5 is a battery-electric mid-size crossover developed primarily for China. Produced by FAW Toyota, it entered the market in 2025 after appearing as the bZ Sport Crossover Concept in 2023 and the bZ3C in 2024. The bZ5 name was adopted before production. It forms part of Toyota’s bZ electric range and reflects the brand’s use of local development and technology partnerships for the Chinese market.
Only one generation has been produced. Its five-door body combines a low, coupe-like roofline with crossover proportions, while the interior focuses on passenger space, digital connectivity and a large central display. Manufacturing takes place at FAW Toyota’s new-energy vehicle plant in Tianjin. The development programme involved Toyota’s Chinese operations, FAW Toyota and BYD Toyota EV Technology.
The bZ5 has front-wheel drive and is offered with CLTC-rated ranges of 550 or 630 km. Versions mainly differ in battery capacity, comfort equipment and driver-assistance technology, with selected grades adding lidar and Toyota Pilot. Positioned as a technology-focused electric crossover within Toyota’s China-market line-up, it is known for streamlined styling, a spacious cabin, strong single-motor output and an emphasis on connected features and advanced assistance systems.
