About Toyota Belta
The Toyota Belta is a compact four-door sedan positioned below the Corolla in Toyota’s passenger-car range. It is primarily known as a practical, economical model for urban use and emerging markets, with modest exterior dimensions, a conventional boot and seating for five.
Toyota introduced the original Belta in Japan in 2005 as the successor to the Platz. Based on the second-generation Vitz hatchback platform, it was Toyota’s smallest domestic-market sedan at the time. Japanese versions used 1.0- or 1.3-litre petrol engines, with front-wheel drive standard and four-wheel drive offered on selected 1.3-litre models. Related versions were marketed internationally under names including Yaris Sedan and Vios. Production of the Japanese Belta ended in 2012, leaving one generation of this Toyota-developed model.
The Belta name returned in 2021 for a separate sedan supplied through Toyota’s collaboration with Suzuki. Based on the Suzuki Ciaz and produced in India, this version is sold in selected African markets, including Egypt and Ghana. It generally features a 1.5-litre petrol engine, with manual or automatic transmission depending on the market.
Across both forms, the Belta occupies Toyota’s affordable small-sedan category. It is valued for straightforward controls, manageable dimensions, useful passenger and luggage space, and an emphasis on everyday running efficiency rather than performance or luxury.
