About Toyota Aygo
The Toyota Aygo is an A-segment city car developed primarily for Europe. Introduced in 2005, it occupied the entry point of Toyota’s passenger-car range below the Yaris, combining compact dimensions with straightforward operation and economical small engines. Production took place in Kolín, Czech Republic, initially through a joint manufacturing venture with PSA Peugeot Citroën.
The first generation remained in production until 2014 and was offered in three-door and five-door forms. Most versions used a 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol engine, while a diesel was briefly available in some markets. Buyers could choose manual or automated manual transmission, depending on version and year.
A second generation arrived in 2014 with a prominent X-shaped front design and a stronger emphasis on personalisation. Numerous trim levels and special editions were offered, including x-play, x-cite and x-clusiv, while selected versions featured a retractable canvas roof. A styling and equipment update followed in 2018.
Known for urban manoeuvrability, modest running costs and distinctive styling, the Aygo competed in Europe’s smallest passenger-car class. The original hatchback line ended in 2022, when it was succeeded by the larger, crossover-influenced Aygo X, regarded by Toyota as the third generation of its A-segment model.
