About Toyota Avanza
Toyota Avanza is a compact three-row MPV developed for markets where affordable passenger space and everyday versatility are priorities. Introduced in Indonesia in December 2003, it was created with Daihatsu and is closely related to the Daihatsu Xenia. Indonesian production has remained central, supporting sales in Southeast Asia and exports to markets including Latin America.
Three generations have been produced. The second arrived in 2011, updating the original formula with newer styling, equipment and refinement. The third generation, launched in November 2021, made the largest technical change: the Avanza moved from front-engine, rear-wheel drive to front-wheel drive, improving cabin packaging and giving it a more car-like layout.
The Avanza is generally configured for seven occupants, with folding rear seats for mixed passenger and luggage use. Specifications vary by country, with 1.3- and 1.5-litre petrol engines and manual, conventional automatic or CVT transmissions appearing across different versions. Veloz began as an upscale Avanza grade in 2011 and became a separate companion model with the 2021 redesign. Within Toyota’s regional range, the Avanza serves as an accessible family MPV below larger people carriers. It is best known for compact dimensions, three-row practicality and suitability for family, business and fleet use.
