About Toyota Auris
The Toyota Auris is a compact family car introduced in Europe in 2007 as the hatchback successor to the Corolla. It occupied Toyota’s C-segment position above the smaller Yaris and was developed with European buyers in mind. The model was also sold in Japan and selected other markets, although specifications and trim levels varied by region.
Two generations were produced. The first-generation Auris was primarily a five-door hatchback. The second generation arrived in 2012 with lower, sharper styling and later added the Touring Sports estate, which offered greater luggage capacity while retaining compact-car dimensions. European production was concentrated at Toyota’s Burnaston plant in the United Kingdom.
Depending on the year and market, the Auris was available with petrol and diesel engines, manual or automatic transmissions, and full-hybrid power. The Auris Hybrid, introduced during the first generation, helped establish Toyota’s hybrid technology in the mainstream family-hatchback class. Sport-oriented trims and regional versions were also offered, but the model’s main focus remained everyday usability rather than high performance.
The Auris is best known for practicality, economical operation, comfortable road manners and Toyota’s reputation for reliability. Its relatively spacious cabin, five-door layout and available estate body made it suitable for family and fleet use. The Auris name was discontinued in Europe when Toyota returned to the Corolla name for its new-generation hatchback and estate models in early 2019.
