About Toyota Aristo
The Toyota Aristo was a Japanese-market four-door luxury performance sedan produced from 1991 to 2005. It occupied a high position in Toyota’s domestic range, combining executive-car comfort and equipment with strong performance and rear-wheel-drive handling. Closely related models were marketed internationally as the Lexus GS.
Two generations were offered. The first-generation JZS147 arrived in 1991 and shared core components with the Crown Majesta. Its styling was developed from an Italdesign prototype, giving it a distinctive long-nose profile. Main versions included the naturally aspirated 3.0Q and the twin-turbo 3.0V, both using 3.0-litre straight-six engines from Toyota’s 2JZ family.
The second-generation JZS160 and JZS161 followed in 1997 with a new platform, revised weight distribution and more advanced electronic driving aids. The range centred on the naturally aspirated S300 and twin-turbo V300, while Vertex Edition models provided a sportier specification.
The Aristo is best known for combining restrained luxury-sedan styling, a spacious cabin and everyday refinement with considerable performance potential. Turbocharged versions are especially notable for their 2JZ-GTE engine, which has also made the model popular among tuning enthusiasts. The Aristo name ended after the second generation, when its position in Japan shifted to the Lexus GS.
