About Tesla Model X
The Tesla Model X is a battery-electric luxury crossover SUV that served as Tesla’s large premium SUV. First delivered in 2015, it was produced at Tesla’s Fremont, California factory and complemented the Model S sedan by adding a higher-riding body, greater cabin flexibility and available three-row seating. Within the brand’s range, it sat above the smaller Model Y and was aimed at buyers needing more space while keeping Tesla’s electric performance and technology focus.
The model is best known for its Falcon Wing rear doors, low-mounted battery pack and all-wheel-drive electric powertrain layout. Over its production life, the Model X was offered in several battery and performance grades, including earlier 60D, 75D, 90D and 100D versions, later Long Range and Performance models, and the high-output Plaid variant with a tri-motor setup. Most versions used dual-motor all-wheel drive, while seating configurations varied by market and model year.
As a flagship SUV, the Model X combined long-distance electric driving, rapid acceleration and a spacious cabin with Tesla features such as over-the-air software updates, a large central display and access to the Supercharger network. Its design placed emphasis on aerodynamic efficiency for a vehicle of its size, practical passenger space and strong safety engineering. Production of the Model X ended in 2026, but it remains one of Tesla’s most recognisable premium models and an important part of the company’s move from electric sedans into larger family vehicles.
