About Suzuki Twin
The Suzuki Twin is a two-seat kei car developed primarily for urban use in Japan. Introduced in 2003 and produced until 2005, it occupied a specialist position in Suzuki’s small-car range. Unlike conventional kei hatchbacks such as the Alto, the Twin prioritised minimal exterior dimensions, low weight and easy manoeuvrability over rear seating and greater luggage capacity.
Its rounded styling was derived from the Suzuki Pu3-commuter concept shown at the 1999 Tokyo Motor Show. At only 2,735 mm long, the Twin was exceptionally compact even by kei-car standards. Four wheels positioned near the corners, a 3.6-metre turning radius and a simple two-door body made it particularly suitable for narrow streets and restricted parking spaces.
The Twin remained a single-generation model throughout its short production run. Versions included basic and better-equipped petrol models powered by a 658 cc three-cylinder engine, with manual or automatic transmission depending on grade. Suzuki also offered petrol-electric Hybrid A and Hybrid B variants, making the Twin the first production kei car available with a hybrid system.
Notable practical features included a separate opening rear glass hatch and a folding passenger seat that extended the load area. The Twin is chiefly remembered as an unusual, economical city commuter and an early example of Suzuki applying hybrid technology to the smallest class of passenger car.
